James River Interiors is an upholstery shop that sells in-stock and special order fabric with an on-site workroom where drapery, bedding, upholstery, slip covers, foam replacement, and window treatments are created. Owner Francine Douglas started the business in her home in 1998 and has grown the business into a full service company that offers residential and commercial interior solutions. After being located on Lyliston Lane for over a decade, James River Interiors is now in the Hilton area of Newport News at 9709 Warwick Boulevard. The company is Small, Woman-owned, and Minority-owned (SWAM) certified and employs three people.

Some of the special order fabrics that they carry are popular brands such as Duralee, Stout, Greenhouse, and United Fabrics. They also offer Graber and Hunter Douglas blinds and plantation shutters. James River Interiors services the local region and has done projects as far west as Los Angeles. The company offers pick-up and delivery, and free estimates locally. James River Interiors has partnered with Huntington Ingalls Industries and provided the slipcovers for the christening of the George H.W. Bush and Gerald R. Ford aircraft carriers, which were used also for the opening of the Apprentice School.

James River Interiors displays notable commitment to the community by volunteering to host young adults that participate in the city’s Summer Training and Enrichment Program (STEP). For ten weeks during the summer, Douglas and her staff mentor the participants, teaching them job readiness and life skills. For more information, please visit www.jamesriverinteriors.org.
