August 31, 2020Newport News native and CNU graduate Crystal Wojciechowski is the owner and operator of Pure Barre, which opened its doors in May of 2019. Located at 12368 Warwick boulevard in CNU Village, Pure Barre is a boutique fitness studio that offers classes with a fusion of ballet, yoga and Pilates.
Pure Barre is a full body workout designed for people at all levels that guides individuals through a series of low-impact, high intensity movements. The workouts concentrate on small isometric movements which reduce the risk of injury by alleviating pain in the joints. With a mission of having a positive experience as you work to transform your body and mind, Pure Barre has 12 employees, including seven highly-trained instructors, and offers group classes with members also having access to online services and live streamed classes.
After college, Wojciechowski worked in the field of affordable housing and served as an advocate on Capitol Hill. While living in Northern Virginia, she began taking classes at a Pure Barre studio there and was extremely impressed with the results and positive experience she had from the workouts. She noticed that the back pain that she had previously was gone and her physical improvement led her to explore the Pure Barre model in greater detail. In 2018, Wojciechowski decided to act upon her entrepreneurial spirit, move back to Newport News and open Pure Barre.
Wojciechowski has expanded her Pure Barre footprint in Hampton Roads to also include a location in Chesapeake. The business places high value on its connection to the community. In the future, Pure Barre is looking to collaborate with other businesses, promote inclusive and diverse health and fitness initiatives and plan outdoor pop-up fitness events to be held at various locations in Newport News.
