Newport News Restores Japanese Teahouse

Nearly 20 years after receiving a 16th century Japanese teahouse as a gift from Canon Virginia, the City of Newport News has restored the structure, named Swallows’ Rest, and built a Japanese-style garden surrounding the ceremonial teahouse, which is on display at the Peace Garden in Newport News Park. The teahouse, originally exhibited at the National Gallery of Art, is the only one of its kind in the United States.
