Mühlbauer is the world’s leading producer of machinery designed to make smart cards. Smart cards have long been popular in Europe and elsewhere in the world, but are just catching on in the U.S. Mühlbauer, which currently leases space in the Oyster Point business park in Newport News, plans to invest $7.5 million in the new facility. An expanding demand for smart cards in the U.S., particularly by the government sector, will fuel future job growth at the new facility, which will feature a clean, high-tech look in keeping with the many architecturally designed buildings in Oakland Industrial Park.
