CARES Workforce Assistance Program (CWAP)

Apply to join a no-cost job training program!

If you are unemployed, underemployed or your family circumstances changed due to COVID-19, apply to become part of the CARES Workforce Assistance Program (CWAP)! Embark upon a new career in high-demand industries with minimum wages of $13.50 per hour.

  • Healthcare
  • Information Technology
  • Shipbuilding and Repair
  • Construction/trades
  • Truck driving

The program blends in-person and virtual training and residents will graduate with national credentials by December 30. Additional job training and supports will be available at the new Denbigh Workforce Center, housed at New Beech Grove Baptist Church, and at the Brooks Crossing Innovation and Opportunity Center.

Eligibility: CWAP is open to Newport News residents over the age of 18 who are not tied to compulsory school attendance. Applicants must be unemployed/underemployed due to COVID-19 and/or experiencing family hardships resulting from the pandemic.
