Mr. Takayoshi Hanagata, President and CEO of Canon Virginia, Inc. in Newport News, was pleased to announce that Canon Virginia’s Workforce Development Program was presented with the Canon Americas President’s Award for the top Learning and Growth project, as well as the Grand Prize Award for the most outstanding project in the entire Canon Americas region in 2008. The award was announced at Canon Americas’ International Management Meeting in New York earlier this year. The application highlighted Canon Virginia’s outstanding response to the need for technical skills training programs to support the expansion and growth announced on May 1, 2008 [see announcement below]. The application featured Canon’s partnerships with the City of Newport News, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Virginia Community College System and workforce development agencies. It highlighted how the company rapidly brought its new Canon Workforce Development Center to life and talked about the importance of cooperative teamwork.
