C. C. Carter Funeral Home Celebrates Groundbreaking of New Marshall Avenue Facility

Carter Funeral Home Groundbreaking

The Newport News Economic Development Authority (EDA) Board, City officials and guests gathered for the groundbreaking of the new C. C. Carter Funeral Home, to be constructed at the corner of Marshall Avenue and 39th Street. The company is currently located at 3411 Roanoke Avenue.

Following a search of real estate options throughout the City, Reverend Doctor Christopher C. Carter, Sr., proprietor, is investing in a 5.32-acre parcel from the EDA in the City’s Southeast Community, on which to expand his company’s operations. The new structure, representing a $2.7 million investment, will provide 10,000 square feet of space, with seating for 300 and corresponding parking. In addition to the funeral home, plans for a repast facility are anticipated for future development.

“This company has operated in the community for over 80 years and I’m happy to be a part of its rich history in Newport News for the past 10 years,” said Rev. Carter. “I’m extremely excited be able to keep this business in the Southeast Community and add to the redevelopment efforts related to the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative currently underway in the surrounding neighborhood. I look forward to continuing to hire from the area and serving families with their funeral needs. My wife and I, and our entire staff are committed to serving the community and surrounding areas with love, dignity and respect.”

Construction is scheduled to commence by Spring 2022. “We are grateful for the company’s commitment to remain in the City of Newport News, specifically in the Southeast Community, where it has a longstanding history,” noted Florence Kingston, the City’s Director of Development.
