February 16, 2017Modern Machine & Tool Company was founded in Newport News by Thomas Hodge in 1947. The business is a custom manufacturer of precision components for the aerospace, research and development, instrumentation, transportation and marine industries.
The company has 44 employees and provides services such as engineering, testing, production machining and mechanical/electronic engineering, and design.
In 1973, the business moved to its current location, 11844 Jefferson Avenue. It was one of the first businesses to build in what is now known as the Oyster Point Business District. The 53,000-square-foot-building also provides wind tunnel force measurement services from design through facility installation.
