October 15, 2024The Yard Sale, located at 2 Newmarket Square Shopping Center, is a family-owned thrift store that opened its doors for business in 2010. The business, which also specializes in antiques and collectibles, is operated by Brian Mayberry along with his parents, Harold and Martha Mayberry.
Harold Mayberry moved to the area as a teen when his father took a job with the VA Hospital in Hampton. He served in the United States Air Force and settled back down in Hampton to raise his family. Years later, he and his son Brian decided to go into business and started The Yard Sale with a small storage locker. After moving from several previous locations, their current store is 11,000 square feet with 23,000 feet of warehouse space. The store sells a variety of items such as furniture, glassware, toys, tools, artwork, lamps, home appliances, and golf clubs. Some of their collectibles include items such as vintage dolls, comic books, and toys such as a 4,000 piece inventory set of packaged Hot Wheels.
The store also offers custom woodwork to its patrons and designs plaques, signs, and custom tables. Additionally, they feature unique items they refer to as museum pieces, some of which include an Emerson Grand Piano from 1862 and an uncut Inauguaration Ticket from 1942.
The Yard Sale is open 7 days a week and prides itself on being a family-owned business that works to meet the need of its customers.
