Plan for Southeast Waterfront Redevelopment Unveiled

The Cambridge land planning firm of Chan Krieger Sienciewicz unveiled a plan before the Newport News City Council for the redevelopment and revitalization of the two-mile long waterfront along Hampton Roads harbor in Southeast Newport News. The plan calls for the redevelopment of those areas of the waterfront occupied by lower-income housing into housing for medium and higher-income households. The Plan also recommends a variety of amenity upgrades including walking and biking trails and better access to the waterfront and to the area’s existing parks. The City views this as a long-term redevelopment initiative that will substantially transform the character of Southeast Newport News over the next decade.
