February 12, 2018Martin’s Soul Food opened its fifth restaurant this July at 15435 Warwick Boulevard in the Denbigh area of Newport News. Martin’s Soul Food got its start several years ago when owner Tim Martin began selling plates of food at a Virginia Beach gas station, where he met his business partner Cynthia Terry.
Martin and Terry both loved to cook and had dreams of one day opening their own restaurant. They opened their first Martin’s Soul Food restaurant in 2012 in Virginia Beach and now have locations in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Gloucester, and Newport News. Martin and Terry are passionate about serving up southern home-style cooking and use family recipes that have been passed down to them.
The Newport News restaurant can seat about 80 people and has a banquet room for large parties. Menu items include catfish, country fried steak, meatloaf, fried chicken, yams, fried okra, oxtails, chitterlings, crab cakes, cobbler and more. Martin’s also offers lunch specials and kid’s dinners. Martin’s Soul Food plans to continue expanding in the Hampton Roads area and hopes to introduce a breakfast menu to their Newport News and Gloucester locations in the near future.
