The new PEOPLExpress Airlines held a press conference to announce plans to begin service at its new headquarters operation at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. The original PEOPLExpress operated in the United States from 1981 to 1987, and was known as a no-frills, low-fare carrier. The newly-formed company plans to offer discounted fares and eliminate baggage and seat assignment fees, with the goal to “make flying fun again.” PEOPLExpress plans to create 1,000 jobs over the next three years, including 350 in 2012.
