Rick Aviation is a fixed base operator located at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. The locally owned business is operated by John Bombaro and celebrates its 40th anniversary in June. When the business opened in 1978, it had one employee and a pickup truck and has now evolved into an operation that provides general aviation services such as refueling, maintenance, charter, and a flight training school. Rick Aviation employs 30 people and services planes ranging from experimental planes to 747s and A-340s. The business also serves the military community through contracts with the Department of Defense.
Rick Aviation also offers a flight training school, which is open to the public. Featuring six aircraft with courses for beginner pilots to advanced, this FAA approved flight school offers Private, Commercial, and Flight Instructor certifications along with instrument and multi-engine ratings.
The business also is a partner and supporter of Patient Airlift Services and Angel Flight, which are nonprofit groups that arrange free transportation for individuals requiring medical diagnosis, treatment, or follow-up.
