Hampton Roads Wholesalers specializes in art and framing supplies. Its warehouse and customer service center are located in a 20,000 square-foot building at 9616 Hosier Street, directly behind Hilton Shopping Center. The store carries a wide range of art supplies such as pottery clay, paintbrushes, foam board, glass, charcoal sticks and acrylic paints. It also provides framing services including custom frame molding along with dry and stretch matting. Hampton Roads Wholesalers carries over 500 picture frame samples in-house.
The business was started in 1966 by Fred Worthington and began as a gift shop, eventually added crafts to its offerings. Today the business is a wholesale art supply store whose customer base includes both retail art companies and the general public. It is the only wholesale art supply business that is based in the Hampton Roads region.
In addition to providing outstanding customer service to its customers, the business also works to collaborate with other community organizations. It has supported local breast cancer fundraisers, Alternatives Inc., and AmeriCorps. As a show of support to the local art community, the company is currently working on a community mural that displays the artwork of local artists.
